Web Activity Tracking
Supported on Android only.
This data source monitors participant web browsing activity using a specialized Firefox Nightly Mobile plugin.
The collected data helps you understand:
- Types of websites visited
- Frequency of browsing sessions
- Content of web pages viewed
- Patterns in web usage behavior
Setting Up Web Activity Tracking as a Data Source
Ensure the following for using this data source:
- You contact us for activation, due to privacy and compliance concerns.
- Participants provide informed consent, understanding the data collection specifics.
- Participants use Android devices.
- Firefox Nightly Mobile is installed on participant devices.
- The Research Web Capture plugin is installed on the Firefox Nightly Mobile app.
- Participants have joined the relevant study in Avicenna.
- Participants log in via the plugin interface using their Avicenna credentials.
- Participants use only the designated device and Firefox Nightly Mobile app for web browsing during the study.
Data Collection Behavior
A record for the visited page is uploaded to Avicenna servers when the page loads.
Monitoring Web Activity Tracking Data
You can use Kibana to monitor and download your data.
Data Structure
Besides the common data fields, each record contains:
URL: Full URL of the visited webpage. Internally stored as url
.
Content: HTML content of the page, converted to Markdown. Internally stored
as content
.
Important Notes
- Ensure participants understand the data collection process and provide informed consent.
- The plugin respects privacy, collecting data only after the participant logs in.
- Data collection from private browsing tabs can be excluded by participants.
- Participants can stop data collection at any time by logging out of the plugin.
