Alongside Qualtrics

This article explains how you can use Avicenna alongside Qualtrics to broaden your study's possibilities.

Qualtrics is an experience management (XM) system that seems to be focused on Customer and Employee experience more than EMA and experience sampling research methodology. However, the platform is versatile enough to meet most survey-based needs.

If you're familiar with Qualtrics, you know they excel in:

  • Surveys: Their survey tools are comprehensive and feature-rich. They offer a wide range of question types, logic branching, anonymous/public surveys, and customization options that can handle even the most complex survey designs.
  • Data & Analysis: Qualtrics offers powerful tools for reviewing and analyzing data. They have various reporting widgets, charts, and AI-driven analysis features like auto-generated reports and trend identification. Their real-time analytics help in making informed decisions quickly.

If these features are a must for your study, Qualtrics might be the primary platform you use. On the other hand, they offer many ways to bring data into their platform, including creating separate data projects, importing video and audio projects, importing survey responses, and using supplemental data sources. Qualtrics also has integrations with other software like Chat Messaging apps, but that's beyond the scope of this article.

In conjunction with Qualtrics, you can use Avicenna for features that are missing or hard to achieve in Qualtrics. Below, we outline how Avicenna can complement Qualtrics.

Sensor Data

Qualtrics is great in survey-based data collection but lacks sensor integrations. Avicenna, however, has an extensive range of data sources that you can use, from wearables (e.g., Polar, WHOOP, and Fitbit) to mobile app sensors (e.g., GPS, Screen State, and Gravity).

You can use Avicenna mobile apps or integrate with external wearables to collect sensor data and then import this data into Qualtrics for deeper analysis and custom sampling over surveys. For example, this gives you the ability to correlate survey results with physiological data, providing a richer context for your research.

Cognitive Tasks

Qualtrics does not support cognitive tasks, which are critical for certain types of research. While you might be able to simulate such tasks partially and probably with too many limitations using Qualtrics surveys, Avicenna offers a range of cognitive tasks like Stroop, Time-Use, and Matrix Reasoning (IQ Test) each specially designed based on its purpose.

You can use Avicenna to administer these cognitive tasks and then import the collected data into Qualtrics. This allows you to integrate cognitive performance data with other survey responses, providing a more comprehensive view of your participants.

Offline Android and iOS Apps

Qualtrics does offer an offline mobile app, but it is mainly geared towards researchers collecting face-to-face responses. Avicenna’s participant mobile apps are offline-first, enabling survey responses to be collected without an internet connection, which is crucial in regions with poor connectivity or for field studies.

If offline data collection is essential for your study, you can use Avicenna for data collection and then import it into Qualtrics for further analysis.

Video and Audio Responses

You can use Qualtrics to collect video and audio responses from participants (whether as a file or a recording) using their surveys. But if, for any reason, you decided to use Avicenna surveys for that purpose, you might still want to use Qualtrics Imported Video and Audio Projects for deeper analysis of such responses.

When analyzing your imported responses in Qualtrics, you can review the response's auto-generated transcript and sentiment, assign tags based on the response content, and organize responses into highlight reels.

Final Words

We are constantly improving our platform to meet your needs and bridge gaps between us and other tools. The robust survey and data analysis features of Qualtrics are areas we target in our roadmap, aiming for Avicenna to be the only platform you need for your studies.

To achieve this, we welcome feedback and ideas. Don't hesitate to reach out to us at support@avicennaresearch.com or our Forum.
